Why Thermal Spray Technology: [ back ]

Thermal spray materials can be applied to new parts, used to repair old parts and to upgrade existing parts to provide for longer part life. Often new parts, such as pump packing sleeves, are made from lower priced materials and then coated to provide longer life than manufactured parts with higher priced materials.

A wide variety of alloys are available to match the service applications of used parts, and provide excellent resistance to chemical erosion and physical wear. For example, O-ring seals that are thermal sprayed are impervious to attack from chemicals; and pump casings used in abrasive services that are coated with HVOF tungsten carbide alloy have dramatically longer service life. Also, turbine shaft journals can be repaired with thermal spray, as well as carbon seal areas and chrome plated parts can be repaired with coatings that provide better resistance than the original part materials.

IPS has the experience, expertise and technology to work with customers in custom tailoring the repair and thermal spray technology used for specific parts to provide parts that meet or exceed the usage and unique conditions encountered in industrial operations.
